Related to Plate 38 of A Voyage to the Pacific Ocean...., London, 1784, This is one of the earliest portraits of a West Coast Aboriginal person by a European. John Webber is the official artist who accompanied Captain James Cook on his Northwest passage expedition (1776-1780). This drawing is the final drawing based on an on the spot sketch (in a private California collection) and was probably done when Webber returned to England., Digitization project: Living Memory
