A second copy of this miniature has been offered for sale a number of times., Colour transparency: recto in gold-toned mat, relates to C-123834, See OP-84-16., In 1818, John Ross (1777-1856) then a commander in the Royal Navy, led his first expedition to the Canadian Arctic in search of the North-West Passage. He made another attempt in 1829 when he became ice-bound for four years, and upon his return to England was created a knight bachelor. He led his own expedition in search of John Franklin in 1850.
