A medal commemorating British victory over the French at the city of Montréal during the Seven Years' War (1760). Led by Field-Marshal and Commander-in-Chief Jeffrey Amherst (commemorated on the obverse side of this medal), the British captured the city of Montréal from the French and effectively put an end to French rule in North America. In recognition of his victory, Amherst was appointed Governor-General of British North America.

The obverse side of the medal displays an image of St. Lawrence (patron saint of Canada after which the river is named) reclining on the prow of a ship, his hand holding a paddle while a dog-like beaver climbs his left leg. In the background, a military standard is displayed with the name of Commander Amherst encircled within the laurels. In the forefront of the image is a shield of France lying on the ground on top of a tomahawk, bow, and quiver holding arrows.

The reverse side of the medal displays a morose-looking female figure leaning against a fir tree, a shield of France beside her and an eagle perched on a rock behind her.
