A covered bridge crossing the Hudson River at Troy (N. of Albany) in New York State, with the settlement on the right bank. There is a sailing ship waiting to pass through the section of the bridge which can be lifted. There are commercial and pleasure boats on the river: in the foreground there are three figures in a rowboat, to their right is a barge or wharf loaded with goods, and to the left a boat is carrying supplies., George Seton was a British Officer serving in North America from April 14th, 1844 to August 31st, 1848. Seton might have drawn this view because of the importance of the bridge for military strategy. British officers were trained in watercolour for this purpose., Works 1953-75-9 and -11 have the similar secondary supports. Although they are the same size as those of the other works, these two are on grey tinted paper. They might have been pasted into the same album., Works 1953-75-7 and -12 also show bridges (in Kingston).
