MS [by La Rue and his secretary, Nicolet]. The writer, who has been for 34 years vic. general of the bp. of Québec, certifies that Manach, a priest from the diocese of Trequier in Bretagne, in [Oct.] 1750 was sent by the Séminaire des Missions-Étrangères to Acadia, where he lived with the natives and learned their language, being esteemed by them and by the French Acadians. On 5 Mar. 1761 the English Governor [Belcher, recte Administrator of Nova Scotia] arrested Manach and sent him to an island nearby, where he stayed for five weeks. He was then sent to New York and Portsmouth, in England, where he was imprisoned for 17 days. Manach eventually reached France in Aug. 1761. B: 588v.
