LS. The writer acknowledges the addressee's letter of 20 March [1830; see Lettere 334] and the brief [of 11 August 1829; see Varia 340] establishing the new bishopric of Charlottetown (comprising New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Iles-de-la-Madeleine) and the brief [of 4 September 1829; see Varia 342] attaching Cape Breton Island to the vicariate apostolic of Nova Scotia.

He informs that he will continue to send there his own priests in order not to deprive the numerous Gaelic-speaking Catholics of spiritual assistance. He makes reference to Tabeau and Maguire, to petition "A", to the writer's letters of 21 November 1827 [see SOCG 513] on the procedure for the appointment of a coadjutor, of 31 January [see SOCG 548] and 27 May [see C 193] 1829 dealing with holidays, ordination of priests, vicars general (Boston and New York mentioned), baptism, and enclosing a M ("E") [see C 205] prepared by one of the writer's vicars general on marriage cases. He rejoices at PF's decision [made in the CG of 1 March 1830; see Acta 195] against the transaction between the Montréal Seminary and the British government, and insists on the importance of confirming the status of the bp. of Telmissus [Lartigue] in Montréal.

After his last letter [of 27 May 1829, to Cappellari; see C 193], new problems were raised by the Montréal Seminary, as shown by their writings B-D and 1-11. He also conveys the request of Besserer, parish priest of Saint-Joachim-en-Colle or Beaupré [i.e., Saint-Joachim-de-Montmorency], for a plenary indulgence. PF notes.
