Crown Assets Disposal Corporation (Canada) : Created in 1944, this corporation was called the War Assets Corporation until 1949. At that time, the surplus Crown Assets Act established the Crown Assets Corporation. From 1969 on, this corporation reported to Parliament through the Minister of Supply and Services (RG 98).

Under the terms of the Financial Administration Act, this Crown Corporation was an "authorized agent". In this context, it operated somewhat like a private corporation. The head office in Ottawa was assisted by six regional sales offices. Operational expenses were granted by the Governor in Council and receipts were turned over to the Receiver General.

It provided departments and other government agencies with specialized services in the sale of surplus government assets by calling for tenders, holding auctions or selling the assets at retail. It also acted as intermediary when the United States, Great Britain and other countries sold their surplus assets in Canada. It was mandated under the Surplus Crown Assets Act and reported to Parliament through the Minister of Supply and Services (RG 98).

On September 9, 1985, the corporation was officially disbanded and responsibilities taken over by the Department of Supply and Services. I was integrated into the Department organization in the Regions Branch under the name of Crown Assets Distribution.

What is left of this corporation today is now part of the new Department established in 1993 when the Department of Supply and Services merged with the Department of Public Works to become Public Works and Government Services Canada.
