Souvenir plaque created for the Columbia River Historical Expedition of 1926 planned by the Great Northern Railway. The expedition of about 160 persons, which included American high school students, French students, state governors, railroad officials and historical researchers, left Chicago by special train on July 15th 1926 and travelled across the American Northwest to Portland and back by July 27th. Second expedition of its kind after the Upper Missouri Historical Expedition of 1925, the Columbia River Historical Expedition travelled through and / or stopped at cities, towns and locations such as Minneapolis, Fargo, Grand Forks, Fort Union, Fort Benton, Great Falls, Bonners Ferry, Spokane, Wishram, Portland, Longview and Glacier Park.
