Clarke, Lori, 1967- : Lori Clarke is a newly-established artist living and working out of St. John's Newfoundland. She received a BFA from Concordia University in 1990 and an MA from the California Institute of Integral Studies in 1995. Her interdisciplinary work goes beyond genre, touching the disciplines of video, music, installation and performance. All of her work is rooted in evocative sound design and music. She received the Best Music and Sound Award from the Nickel Independent Film Festival in 2002 and 2003. She has composed music for documentary, short drama, for art installations and for the stage since 1987. Her work was featured in the inaugural exhibition at The Rooms, Provincial Art Gallery in St. John's in 2005.

General note:

Anatomist in Situ won a Special Jury Award at the International Scientific Film Festival in Hungary in 2003. Anatomist in Situ is part of a trilogy entitled the somalore series which also features Breathe, and Scourge. All these works are between science and art - a discomfort zone exemplified by Anatomist in situ.
The video (with three related colour photographs on vellum) centres on Dr. Shakti Chandra, an anatomy professor for 30 years at Memorial University's Medical School. In her laboratory the physician reflects on the imagined lives and dreams of the dead whose organs she holds, whose skin she slices into. Digitally animated ghosts emerge and fade, close views show the evidence of lives lived in small scars and ragged nails.
