Podolinsky and Lisa Bittmann, and their families. The Bittmann family material consists of a Bittmann family history and several books by Alika's grandfather Karl Bittmann, a chemist who established sugar factories in Russia. Bittmann was an expert on industrial relations who revised Germany's labour laws and was requested by the Belgian government to serve as German administrator of Belgium during the First World War. The Podolinsky family material is more extensive, including biographical and genealogical information about the family; correspondence with historian Roman Serbyn concerning his research on Alika's grandfather Serhii A. Podolinsky and his political activism and agricultural reforms in Ukraine in the 19th century; a magazine article by her mother Lisa von Podolinsky; and manuscripts and publishing correspondence relating to the memoir "Russland vor der Revolution", in which her father described his career as secretary to Peter Stolypin, Prime Minister to Czar Nicholas II, in the years before the Russian Revolution. The book was published in Germany in 1971 and in Latvian in Australia in 1980. The draft manuscript includes the texts of speeches made by Stolypin in the Duma that were not included in the published versions of the book.Additional information:Language note:Most of the documents and publications are written in German, but there is some material in English, Russian, and Latvian.Source:Private -
