This series documents the activities of Jean Chrétien during his tenure as Secretary of State for External Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister, June-September 1984. The records document the issues of the day as addressed by the office, as well as the inner workings of the Secretary of State for External Affairs office. Most of the documents relate to Jean Chrétien's position as Secretary of State for External Affairs. Although most of the files cover the 1984 time period, there are some exceptions.

Conservation:

The records of this series are in excellent general condition, and robust measures were taken to preserve them: all metal pieces were removed, newspaper clippings were removed and replaced with photocopies, records in a fragile state of preservation were also photocopied, etc. Lastly, records were removed from their original folders and placed in acid-free folders.
