The sub-series consists mainly of incoming and outgoing correspondence exchanged by the Minister of Finance and his office with various federal departments and agencies in the 1977 to 1979 period. This correspondence illustrates the Minister of Finance's consistent involvement and importance in the administration of government. Certain files in this sub-series also concern the interests of Jean Chrétien's riding.

Lastly, this sub-series supplements a larger set of records. The documents of this sub-series are classified based on a system used in the offices of the Honourable Donald S. Macdonald (1975-1977) and the Honourable John Crosbie (1979-1980). These three holdings thus provide an information continuum spanning nearly five years, which, by putting records into a wider context, helps shed light on issues falling under the authority of Canada's Finance Minister.
