The company's first project was the documentary film History on the run (1979). Investigative Productions received the 1995 Golden Sheaf Award for the documentary film Hearts of Hate - the battle for young minds.
White Pine Pictures : White Pine Pictures is an independent, Canadian film and television production company based in Toronto, Ontario. Founded in 1978 as Investigative Productions by filmmaker Peter Raymont, the company grew into White Pine Pictures when writer/filmmaker Lindalee Tracey teamed with Raymont. The company specializes in docudramas, documentary films and television series and has collaborated with several international broadcasters including Channel 4 and BBC (UK), PBS-ITVS and Nat Geo (USA), SVT Stockholm (Sweden) and ABC and SBS (Australia). White Pine Pictures has garnered over thirty international awards, including Canadian Genies and Geminis. In 1998, White Pine Pictures was awarded the Gold Medal for Best Documentary Television series at the international Worldfest Houston. The company's other productions include the 4-season/52-episode documentary television series A Scattering of Seeds: The Creation of Canada; the three hour series The Undefended Border, dealing with immigration and security policing; the documentary A Promise to the Dead: The Exile Journey of Ariel Dorfman; and the 13-hour drama series The Border, which is now in production for primetime broadcast on Canadian Broadcasting Corporation television in January 2008. In 2005, Peter Raymont's documentary film Shake Hands with the Devil received the Audience Award for World Cinema Documentaries at the Sundance Film Festival. In October of 2006, one of the two founders of White Pine Pictures, Lindalee Tracey, passed away.
