Recherche dans la collection - Abstract registers of land patents, Upper Canada and Province of Canada, 1793-1846 [textual record]

The bound volumes in this sub-series contain the abstracts of registers of land records deposited in the Office of the Registrar of the Province of Canada in Montreal and copied in abstract form in 1846-1847. These registers were used to record land patents created in the Province of Upper Canada from 1793 to 1841, and in the Province of Canada from 1841-1846. In 1841, Upper Canada and Lower Canada were joined to form the Province of Canada.

A Patent of Land was the instrument used by the Crown to grant public lands to an individual. Land patents created during the period 1793 to 1846 were registered in different volumes according to the location of the land (eg. district) or the type of land being patented (eg. clergy reserves, crown reserves).

The columns of the abstracts in these volumes record the name of patentee, name of township, acres, lot number, concession, date of patent, and a reference to the page in the register where the patent might be located.
