This item is an annotaded typescript of the book "Canadiana published in Great Britain, 1519-1763; a list of books, pamphlets, broadsides, etc. / Compiled by Freda F. Waldon, M.A. - [1930-1950]. The text is annotated by the author and by Dr. W. Kaye Lamb (former Dominion Archivist and National Librarian). It is housed in a library buckram slip case. It was transferred to microfilm in 1982.

Waldon, Freda Farrell, 1898-1973 : Librarian and author, Freda Farrell Waldon was born August 29, 1898 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto (1919), then went on to complete her M.A. in English at Columbia University (1931). Waldon attained a diploma from the School of Librarianship at the University of London and pursued a Carnegie Fellowship in 1931-32 before becoming Chief Librarian of the Hamilton Public Library, a position which she held from 1940 to 1963. In 1947, she served as the first president of the Canadian Library Association and also served on the American Library Association. Her publication of a brief, along with tireless work, lent to the establishment of a National Library of Canada. A dedicated community worker, Dr. Waldon took a lead role in adult education, helping to found the Hamilton Recreation Council and the Hamilton branch of the National Film Forum. In 1950, she initiated the first Programme Planners Institute in Canada. She was also a founding member of the Women's Committee of the Art Gallery of Hamilton and the Head-of-the-Lake Historical Society. She received many honours during her lifetime, including the United Nations Award for Meritorious Service in recognition of her more than thirty-five years of active membership, and an honorary degree from McMaster University in 1954 in recognition of her contribution to Canadian librarianship.
