S&S Productions : S&S Productions Inc. is a Toronto-based Canadian television production company founded in 1980. The company was created after the success of Smith & Smith, a variety program featuring Steve and Morag Smith, which aired during the late 1970s. The success of this series led to 60 episodes of another successful series, The Comedy Mill. Now in its third decade of creating quality programming for domestic and international audiences, S&S mainly focuses on developing, producing and distributing television series. In March 1990, the first episode of the company's internationally renowned comedy series, The Red Green Show, aired on CHCH TV (now CH-TV) in Hamilton, Ontario. Many other S&S Productions projects followed, including: History Bites, a historical comedy series that satirizes historical events, also parodying the modern-day media such as television; An American in Canada, a sitcom that won the Gemini for best comedy program for its pilot episode; Listen Missy!, a sketch comedy series featuring some of Canada's top female performers; Steve Smith Playhouse, a comedy show featuring the voice of the Red Green Show's star dubbed over fictional characters' voices in shortened versions of bad B-movies; Balance Television for Living Well, a health and lifestyle daily series hosted by Dr. Marla Shapiro; Anything I Can Do, a female fix-it program hosted by actress Mag Ruffman; The Gardener's Journal, one of North America's longest-running gardening programs hosted by Kathy Renwald; Street Eats, an ethnic food show hosted by Sora Olah and PJ Kerr; The 5th Quadrant, a comedy show that parodies the paranormal hosted by Canadian comedian Lee Smart; Jeff Ltd., a comedy series starring Jeff Stevens; Fingers of Fire, a documentary about the renowned Indo-Canadian tabla player Vineet Vyas; Sons of Butcher, an animated series produced for Teletoon; and Red Green's Duct Tape Forever, the company's first feature film released theatrically in Canada in April 2002. In addition to this, S&S has also produced seven home videos including the latest, Red Green's Duct Tape Virtuoso Deluxe (DVD), its first foray into the DVD world. The company also has expertise in television financing, distribution and post-production. It has worked with many level of federal government and private sector funding bodies and agencies to acquire financial aid, including the Canadian Television Fund, Harold Greenberg Fund and Telefilm Canada. S&S also has its own international distribution division responsible for selling the company's productions into international marketplaces, such as European, Middle Eastern, Australian and Asian territories.
