This sub-series chiefly concerns the Right Honourable Jean Chrétien's relations with constituents in the Saint-Maurice riding, with (to a lesser degree) various stakeholders in the Mauricie region, and with (to an even lesser degree) individuals outside Quebec and federal politicians.

The records concerning Jean Chrétien's efforts to build relations with constituents, especially with regard to employment and economic development, contain comprehensive documents concerned exclusively with his role as Minister of Indian and Northern Affairs. These contain detailed information on the creation of national parks, especially La Mauricie National Park. Some files are more directly concerned with Northern Canada (i.e. Northern industries, polar bear hunt, fossil fuels, etc.) and Indian affairs, particularly the Inuit. The sensitive issue of native children placed in "residential homes" to pursue their studies is also addressed.

Various topics of national interest are also addressed, such as gun control, abortion, the promotion of Canada in Quebec, inflation, conversion to the metric system, the Liberal Party of Canada (i.e. guidelines on various topics, promotional campaigns, etc.), bilingualism and foreign affairs.

The sub-series consists mainly of correspondence, but also includes working papers, forms (i.e. mostly employment and grant applications), memos and reference documents, mostly institutional in nature. To a lesser degree, it also contains newspaper clippings, telephone conversation transcripts, news releases, legal texts, media monitoring reports, speeches, parliamentary reports addressed to citizens, and three photographs.

Certain items bear Minister Jean Chrétien's signature (copies), and several bear his initials (for approval, or to indicate that he had seen them). Several items are signed by federal politicians (i.e. M.P.s, Ministers, Senators, etc.), and a smaller number are signed by provincial politicians.
