This posthumous portrait type, based within a popular eighteenth-century medium that had gained a reputation for accessible realism, may have been marketed in order to satisfy a public demand for portraits of signficant citizens, during the late eighteenth to early nineteenth centuries.Provenance :Nom(s) additionnel(s) :Information additionnelle :Attributions et conjectures :Sculpture has been attributed to Patience Lovell Wright (not proven and very unlikely), The Royal Ontario Museum version of this representation has been attributed to Isaac Gosset and to John Charles Lochee (not proven and unlikely). See Behold the Hero : General Wolfe & the arts in the eighteenth century by Alan McNairn (1997; p.192), A photograph of a version of this representation was published in Portrait Waxes, by D.R. Reilly (1953; p. 141). Reilly ascribes the wax to John Charles Lochee (not proven and unlikely)Historique de la conservation :Sculpture was purchased from the book dealer Harold L. Medjuck in 2008.
