Item is relatively brittle. Researchers must be accompanied by an art archivist.

Work was possibly done for a Dr. McCullough and offered to him by the Dumbells as a gift of appreciation sometime in the 1920s. According to the donors, Dr. McCullough's daughter's stepchildren, the doctor would have done some work for the comedy troupe. The type of work done is unfortunately unknown.

The back of the frame for this work carried a newspaper clipping from the Thunder Bay Chronicle-Journal of May 1988. The short article announces the death of Jack McLaren and describes his career and accomplishments. A handwritten note at the end of the article reads: McLaren painted this in the early 20's when he was in his early 20's + gave it go Dr. McC. in appreciation for the [illegible] at Birch Beach.

The frame's backing also has a name and an address from Port Arthur, Ontario.
