The oldest example of hotel architecture to have survived in Montreal. Rascos was the most luxurious establishment of its kind in the country when it was inauguarated. Even if it is now just more office space, the building is still of great interest, especially for its shed dormers, a device used instead of the prohibited mansard roof (considered to favour the spread of flames) that made the upper storey quite comfortable. This kind of roof became especially popular between 1840-50. Another notable feature are the firebreaks that extend to ground level and just out from the façade.
