This series documents the activities of the Policy and Research Unit of the Office of the Right Honourable Jean Chrétien, Prime Minister of Canada from November 1993 to December 2003. Specifically, it concerns the activities of Policy and Research Unit staff (i.e. Chaviva Hosek, Paul Genest, Marjorie Lovey, Alain Beaudoin, Robbin Tourangeau and Mary Granskou). The Policy and Research Unit was in charge of developing and reviewing the legislative agenda of Jean Chrétien's Liberal government. It also analyzed, for the Prime Minister, key social, economic and environmental issues of the 1993-2003 period.

The series consists mainly of correspondence, briefing notes, memos, reports, studies, submissions to the Prime Minister's Office or other federal bodies, news releases, speeches, interview transcripts, press clippings, and copies of articles.

The series is divided into two (2) sub-series: Director of Policy and Research's Correspondence, and Working Files.

(Électronique) Part of the finding aid for this series was developed based on data retrieved from the CCM-DOMUS and CS-CIMS databases. These two correspondence management systems developed at the same time, which explains why the same correspondent can be found in several files within the series. Other part of finding aid for this was created by the archivist. MSS2427 (96: Restrictions varient)

Conservation :

The records of this series are in excellent general condition, and robust measures were taken to preserve them: all metal pieces were removed, newspaper clippings were removed and replaced with photocopies, records in a fragile state of preservation were also photocopied, etc. Lastly, records were removed from their original folders and placed in acid-free folders.
