The series consists of correspondence referring mainly to professional matters and including copies and drafts of letters by Dr. Shirley L. Thomson. Included are letters of recommendation for jobs and nominations including the Order of Canada; correspondence with artists, Art Galleries, cultural organizations and the arts community in general; and various invitations. The correspondence is arranged in chronological order and some files are arranged under the letter's author or the subject, as received. A few letters from Dr. Thomson's family are also part of the series.

Included are photographs of Dr. Shirley L. Thomson at the Canadian Institute of Conservation, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Smithsonian Institute, the Marion McCain Atlantic Gallery, the Agatha Bystram Award Ceremony, the Annual Gala Dinner of the Canadian Women in Communications, the National Access Awareness Week, the York Wilson Award Presentation, the National Gallery of Canada, and the Order of Canada reception with Ron Longstaffe, Claude Théberge, Betty Goodwin, and Charles Gagnon.
