Collection consists of approx. 250 newspaper cartoons (some of which are later reproductions) by J.W. Bengough, of unknown provenance (although possibly transferred from a political collection, such as the Sir Robert Borden fonds). Cartoons were published in The Globe, c. 1896-1900, and deal with Canadian and American politics.

Many of the prints have an initial cataloguing date of 1929 on the verso. Prints acquired prior to 1931 have usually never been accessioned, as they would have been acquired before the Public Archives of Canada put into place a systematic accessioning system.
