Item consists of a watercolour of Caubvick likely done by Catherine Cartwright, sister of George and John Cartwright. This small image is inserted into Volume I of The Life and Correspondence of Major [John] Cartwright. p.48.

General note:

Caubvick, wife of Tooklavinia and sister-in-law of Attuiock, was one of five Inuit, taken by George Cartwright to London in 1772. She was described as a vivacious girl who enjoyed dancing. All five visitors fell ill with smallpox and four of them died in London. Caubvick recovered but unfortunately brought the disease back to her community in Labrador whose members also all died.
