Item consists of an albumen print taken from a composite image created by Notman & Sandham, photographers, in 1879. It shows a number of mounted dragoon guards, thought to be The Princess Louise Dragoon Guards (which was formally named as such 3 January 1879), mounted on their (hand-drawn and painted) steeds before a painted backdrop of the portico to the Centre Block of the Parliament Buildings, with the East Block in the background. In the foreground are officers, and a sleigh with a driver; to the left of the sleigh is another man, carrying robes. None of the individuals in the image is identified. Much of the image has been hand-drawn and/or painted; evidently the photographers thought the time spent in creating the image would be well rewarded by sales.
