1 reproduction colour half-tone.Language of material:EnglishScope and content:Fonds consists of: a drawing of the Duke of Connaught by Frank Craig; a printing depicting the arrival of Madame Champlain in Quebec,1620, by Frank Craig; paintings commissioned to illustrate the book, "The King's Book of Quebec" written by Dr. Doughty and Colonel Wood, and published by Mortimer Co. Ltd. in Ottawa, under the direction of the National Battlefield Commission, in 1911. The paintings are likely actual records of the costume re-enactments which took place during the Quebec Tercentenary Celebrations in 1908. Works include "Arrival of Madame Champlain at Quebec, 1624 [should be 1620]"; "Reception of the Marquis de Tracy and the Intendant Talon by Msgr. Laval 1665"; "The march past of the historic armies, 1908"; "Champlain at the court of Henry IV, 1608"; "Jacques Cartier relating his story to Francis I, 1634"; and "The Arrival of the Ursulines, 1639". All works are by Frank Craig (1874-1918). The works were probably done after on-the-spot sketches made during the Quebec Tercentenary Celebrations in 1908, when costume re-enactments went on during the summer.Provenance:Additional name(s):Additional information:General note:Copy negative available: C-100292.Custodial history:Acquired directly from the artist.Citation/reference note:Bibliographic citation: Doughty and Wood, "The King's Book of Quebec" (Ottawa: Mortimer Co.
