Canada Museums Construction Corporation : The Federal Government announced its intention to establish the Canada Museums Construction Corporation (CMCC) with a mandate to build the National Gallery and the Canadian Museum of Civilization in February 1982 and later confirmed by an Order-in-Council (June 1982). The Corporation was responsible for managing both construction projects, recommending sites, as well as providing construction and budget schedules to the government for approval. In December 1982 twelve architects were asked to submit design proposals. In February the government appointed Moise Safdie of the consortium Parkin/Safdie Architects, Planners as the design architect for the Gallery; and Douglas J. Cardinal of the Consortium DJC/TPL as the design architect for the Canadian Museum of Civilization. Originally, the CMCC was to construct the buildings but in 1985 the government transferred the responsibility of both projects to the Department of Public Works. The transition occurred over a five year period which resulted in the dissolution of the Corporation.
