Canadian Institute for International Peace and Security : The Canadian Institute for International Peace and Security (CIIPS) was established as a Crown Corporation in 1984 by the Canadian Institute for International Peace and Security Act (R.C.S., 1985, C18). The Institute's mandate was to "increase knowledge and understanding of the issues relating to international peace and security from a Canadian perspective, with particular emphasis on arms control disarmament, defence and conflict resolution." Its more specific functions were to foster, fund and conduct research, promote scholarship, study and propose ideas and policies, collect and disseminate information on, and encourage public discussion of matters related to international peace and security. CIIPS was disbanded by Order in Council on 26 March 1993.
