Agathe along the border of Manitoba and Minnesota. It is across the border from the historic Métis gathering place and trading post of Pembina. Manitoba's first customs office was situated on the west bank of the Red River in a log house built in 1868 where, it is alleged, Louis Riel stopped for the night when he was leaving Manitoba in 1870. It also depicts the Hudson's Bay post on the Red River.
The French-speaking and Roman Catholic parish of Ste. Agathe developed in the mid-1800s on the stretch of the Red River between the southern edge of the parish of St. Norbert and the US border. As is typical of Métis settlements, the land was originally divided into long and narrow river lots. Traces of the pre-existing river lots can be seen in spite of the development of the square lots of the later municipality.Additional name(s):Additional information:Cartographic math data:Scale: 1 inch to 264 feetAvailability of other formats note:The microfiche version is NMC23556Varying form of title:Source:Private -
