This map, apparently by Herman Moll extends from Labrador south to Florida and as far west as Lake Superior. A considerable number of place names are given along the seacost, however, there has been little attempt to delineate features in the interior, which was more extensively known than the map indicates. Because Moll did not sign or date the map its origin is unclear. The notation "Vol. 3 p. 425" at the top does give an indication that it appeared in Thomas Salmon's third volume of: Modern History ... . One part of the third volume concerns the British plantations in America, the page numbers correspond and other Moll maps are included. This particular map however, is not found in the 2nd or 3rd edition volumes and it is likely that it appeared in the first edition published between 1736 and 1738.

Lowery: Maps of the Spanish Possessions ..., #277 dates the map circa 1715 and indicates that it came from Moll's atlas: The World Described ... . The assumption is incorrect.
