Ruscelli's mariner's map is based on Gastaldi's map of 1548 only slightly larger in size.This sea chart of the world depicts the entirety of the continental northern landmasses as an unbroken ring around the globe. North America and Asia form a single mammoth continent, which in turn connects to northern Europe via Greenland The landmasses are shown with little interior detail but with a fair number of coastal place names. The North American continent is most interesting with the western coastline extending to join Asia. The continent is nearly divided by a large inland sea. In the Northeast the Montagna Verde appears just below an isthmus that connects to Greenland and then onto the Scandinavia. Below South America is a huge island of Tierra del Fuego.This edition has the omissions of the names Tierra Del Laborador and Tierra Del Bacalaos from the mass of land joining North America to North Europe. Loxodromic lines crisscross the map radiating from sixteen focal points and the sea is stipple engraved.

In: Ptolemy: Geographia, Venice 1574. The map shows no details in Canada but the entire surface of the map is criss-crossed by navigational lines. The folded map carries a short explanatory note on the recto of its first page and foliation no. 37 with Oo signature. The verso of the second page is blank. This map essentially is an enlargement, with some additional information, of that of Iacopo Gastaldo, published in the 1548 Venice edition of Ptolemy. The 1574 edition was revised by Gio Malombra. The map was published also in the 1561, 1562 and 1564 editions of Ptolemy: all in Venice. (Ph., 371, 372, and 373).
