This map is one of a series of maps first published in 1876 concerned with telegraphic communications and navigational aids in this area of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. By 1907 this system was highly developed as is apparent on the map. Telegraph lines and cables, electro-signal stations, telegraph stations, Marconi Wireless telegraph stations, lighthouses, information stations, storm signal stations and fog horns are all shown. Most submarine cables are named and dated. There is a table of distances and a list of regulations concerning communications between ships and coastal stations.
