This map is one of a series of maps first published in 1876 concerned with telegraphic communications in the area of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. By 1892 the telegraphic network in this area had been greatly extended, as this map demonstrates. The following features appear on the map: existing and projected telegraph lines and cables, shipping corridors, electro signal stations, telegraph stations, lighthouses, and signal stations supplying weather information. There is a list of rules and regulations concerning communications between vessels and land signal stations. Most submarine cables are named.
