In addition to concert programmes, the collection includes similar documents such as festival brochures and concert announcement posters and postcards.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Canada in Concert : Collection of concert programmes begun by the Music Division of the National Library of Canada in 1970. Since the formation of Library and Archives Canada (LAC) in 2004, the collection has been maintained by LAC's Music Section. The scope of the collecting activity has included programmes for concerts that take place in Canada and for concerts in foreign countries that involve Canadian musicians.Additional information:General note:Acquired by donation and purchase from private citizens, organisations, and antiquarians. The majority of the programmes from the Montreal region acquired before 1994 were collected by Eric McLean. A large portion of those from Toronto acquired before 1994 were donated by John Kraglund, and a portion of those from Ottawa for the years 1959-1980 were donated by Lauretta Thistle. These programmes donated by these critics are annotated.Arrangement note:The arrangement of the Canada in Concert collection is geographic. The first series (Canada tours and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) encompasses musical performance activities that are pan-Canadian or which involve more than one province. This is followed by series for each of the 10 provinces, and a combined series for the three territories (Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut). Finally, there is one series (Canadians abroad) for concerts involving Canadians in foreign countries.Source:Private -
