Set of nine trade cards featuring Prime Minister John A. Macdonald and other federal politicians in various scenes of playing baseball. Produced ca. 1885, these small lithographs are examples of early baseball cards. The recto of each card is an advertisement for the Bain Wagon Co. of Woodstock, Ontario.

General note:

These trade cards were issued by the Bain Wagon Co. of Woodstock, Ontario. Founded in 1882, this company was owned by brothers, George and John Bain. They had been born in Woodstock, and John Bain, after learning the wagon and carriage trade in Brantford, migrated to the US. John not only continued working in wagon building business, but he also played professional baseball while in the states.
