Sub-series consists of correspondence, applications for summer job positions (including questionnaires and tasks and responsibilities descriptions), financial information, and students' weekly or monthly evaluations of their experience in the AUYSOP program.

This sub-series contains some documents and files relating to the Urban Multipurpose Aboriginal Youth Centres (UMAYC) Initiative. Established on 1999, the UMAYC Initiative was designed to provide first nations, Métis and Inuit youth with projects and activities that are culturally relevant and based on Aboriginal communities. UMAYC aims to improve the economic, social, and personal prospects of Aboriginal youth by supporting the development and enhancement of the skills and tools youth need to fully participate in, and contribute to their communities in areas such as education, employment skills, life skills, parenting, and intervention. The UMAYC Initiative is managed and administered by the Department of Canadian heritage in partnership with the NAFC, the Métis National Council, and the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami. The NAFC is responsible for the management and administration of UMAYC applications and funding for friendship centres and provincial and territorial associations. Within the NAFC, UMAYC was originally the responsibility of the UMAYC Coordinator and is now administered by the NAFC Program Officer.

Aboriginal Urban Youth Summer Outreach Program : The Aboriginal Urban Youth Summer Outreach Program (AUYSOP) (also known as the Young Canada Works for Aboriginal Urban Youth program) was established on 1996 by the Department of Canadian heritage in partnership with the NAFC. As part of the federal Jobs Strategy program the AUYSOP provides up to 250-300 jobs for urban Aboriginal youth in the friendship centres and PTAs (Provincial/Territorial Associations) across Canada. AUYSOP was designed to provide employment opportunities to Aboriginal secondary and post-secondary students and graduates, as well as unemployed Aboriginal youth 16-24 years of age residing in communities served by friendship centres and provincial and territorial associations. Employment opportunities through AUYSOP are offered through the summer programs of individual friendship centres and associations in the areas of recreation, sports, special events or activities, drop-in centres, on-the-street outreach, peer counselling, cultural events or activities, racism prevention, and work with police. The management and administration of the AUYSOP was transferred to the NAFC in 1997. Upon transfer, management and administration of the AUYSOP became the responsibility of the AUYSOP Coordinator and is now the responsibility of the Program Officer.
