Mahoney, Secretary of the War Mission, with various officials in both Federal and Provincial departments and agencies as well as reports on the activities of the War Mission.Additional name(s):Biography/Administrative history:Canadian War Mission : The Canadian War Mission in the United States was created under Order in Council 272, of 2 February 1918 to facilitate and coordinate economic and financial cooperation between the Canadian federal and provincial governments and the United States, in matters connected with the persecution of the First World War and to ensure the effective representation of Canadian business and commercial interests in the U.S.
The War Mission functioned at arms length from the Canadian government with a high degree of administrative autonomy and reported directly to the Prime Minister. The Mission was initially headed by a Canadian career diplomat, Merchant Michael Mahoney, who was its secretary from 1918 to 1921.
