Album has a red/brown cover with a colour lithograph image of children, one riding a donkey, in a forest. A banner appears above the central image and is printed with title: "CHRISTMAS CARDS." Letters and corners are embellished with images of birds, children, toys and Santa Claus. Cover design is framed by a floral motif of leaves, twigs and branches, within an outer ruled box border. It bears inscription on recto folio 1: "To Mamms / Jan 1[^st].. 1878".
Album has 37 folios of papers of different colours and contains ca. 275 items, laid down to pages, dating primarily from 1860's to 1870's. Items comprise primarily greeting cards: Christmas, Birthday, Easter, Sympathy, Friendship; also: name cards, stickers, cut-outs, and one reproduction of a poem. Cards are both of commercial production and hand-made. Publishers represented include: J. W. Bufford's Sons; E. P. & L. Restein, Phila. P.A.; Goodall; G.W. Clarke, Mtl.; Marcus Ward & Co.; L. Prang & Co., Boston; Religious Tract Society, London; B. Sulman, London; Eyre & Spottiswoode; W. & C. K. Herrick, New York; Thomas Stevens; H.
