Collection comprises a red morocco album containing 121 folios including watercolours, botanical sketches, prints, and portrait photographs. A few landscape views are in the Halifax area. Two works are by Mary McKie.

Saunders, W. Sedgwick (William Sedgwick), 1824-1901 : W. Sedgwick Saunders was born in 1824 in Devonshire. He was educated at King's College, London. He entered into the medical profession in 1838 and in 1843 he began practice at St. Thomas' Hospital, completing his training in 1844 with the highest honours. In 1846, he began his military career as assistant surgeon to the Royal Fusiliers, serving in the West Indies and North America until 1850. He returned to England to serve for a year in charge of the military prison at Fort Clarence, Rochester. A sudden and fortuitous illness prevented him from boarding the ill-fated HMS Birkenhead in 1852, on its course to South Africa.

Saunders resigned his commission in the Army and took up private practice in the city of London. He was well-known for several philanthropic causes and was considered a founder of the Free Library of the Corporation of London. In 1866, he was appointed by Queen Victoria to superintend the management of the outbreak of cholera that year in the British capital and was made the city medical officer of health for London in 1874.

He died in 1901 after a long illness.
