Parmelee, on the origin, organization and work of the Board from 1 January 1940 to 15 July 1940; the files of Captain J.W. Kerr, Supervisor of Nautical Services and a member of the Board and includes a nine page report on the Board's activities. The records are arranged as follows: a report on the origin, organization and work of the Board, 1940; minutes of meetings, 1940-1946; correspondence concerning minutes, 1940-1942; letters from the Board for Captain Kerr's information, 1940-1947; and Captain Kerr's correspondence.Nom(s) additionnel(s) :Biographie/Histoire administrative :Canadian Shipping Board : The Canadian Shipping Board was created on 20 December 1939 under the authority of Order in Council P.C. 4251, to coordinate, manage and direct the licencing and chartering of Canadian registered ships in a time of war, to ensure the maximum usage of Canadian vessels for the successful pursuit of the war effort and the provision of essential civilian needs. The Shipping Board functioned between 1939 and 1946, and was the liaison with military authorities and government departments to ensure that the Canadian shipping industry met all the essential requirements demanded of it.
