This series reflects his continued interest and activity in creating artworks, after the War had ended. Upon release from the army, the artist took part in the Canadian Veteran Aid Program, attending the Ontario College of Art where he was taught by George Pepper and John Alfsen. He received his Diploma in Fine Arts from the OCA. As an instructor in drawing, he taught night courses to first year architectural and engineering students at the University of Toronto enabling him to support himself by doing something he loved.

When he moved to Ottawa to work for the Federal Government around 1947 he continued to practise drawing and painting on a personal level, joining local art groups in Ottawa, and sketching with local artists like Tom Wood, Allen Burton, Gordon Stranks, John and Graham Crabtree, Jim Barber and Al Robinson. This group of friends and artists met regularly for life drawing sessions held in Allen Burton's sign shop: Burton's Signs, in Ottawa where there were large spaces and large tables suitable for artists to work on. Here the artists shared costs and opportunities for constructive critques of their work.

In this series there are casual portraits primarily of models and there are portraits of the artist's children and a lovely portrait of Tom Wood's daughter: Martha Woods.
