This series consists of records of medical admissions and discharges for the Second World War personnel of the Canadian Army, the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal Canadian Air Force, as well as the Non-Permanent Active Militia. The most complete books contain information on when a patient was admitted, his/her medical condition, and when he/she was discharged and to where they were discharged. In some cases the information is limited to the date admitted and the date discharged.

The records consist of books for those admitted to specific medical units and books for men hospitalized from specific military units and schools. They cover medical units and military units and schools both in Canada and overseas.

As Canadian personnel overseas were often treated in hospitals run by Allied Forces, these are also recorded, e.g. 52 British Mobile Field Hospital. In such cases, only the Canadian personnel admitted to the Allied medical unit is listed.

There is a limited number of books which begin prior to the outbreak of the Second World War.

Historique de la conservation :

The records in this series were compiled during and after the Second World War by the Department of National Defence. In 1948, they were transferred to the custody of the Department of Veterans Affairs War Service Records Division where they were used to support application for post-service benefits. In 1971, all the records of the War Service Records Division were transferred to the then Public Archives of Canada. Library and Archives Canada brought these records under archival control in 2014.
