This sub-series pertains to records produced by Garry Woodbeck, the officer and manager of Marine Operations. Garry Woodbeck acted on the Board of Directors of the Standard Compensation Act Liability Association Limited, more commonly known as SCALA. SCALA was formed in 1978 and enacted in Bermuda on February 27, 1978 with the purpose of providing unlimited insurance coverage for the liability of ship owners to crew members and employees falling under the jurisdiction of the Canadian Workers' Compensation Boards. Membership was limited to ship owners and included both Canadian and Bermudian members. Pat Doherty and Gary Woodbeck sat as representatives for N.M. Paterson & Sons Limited at the Association's meetings which were held two or three times a year. Included in these files are documents on negotiations between SCALA and the Workers' Compensation Boards, rules and by-laws of the association, statistics on annual accidents and claims, directors' reports and reports of sub-committees, audits, accounts and investments reports, agendas of meetings with details on business items discussed at each meeting.
