Accession consists of records created and/or maintained by the Gitksan-Carrier District Office of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, and its predecessors. Predecessors include: the Babine Agency and District Office.

The accession includes, but is not limited to records relating to: economic development, including Indian Economic Development Fund loans &/or guaranteed loans, industrial & business development, Indian Economic Development fund grants &/or contributions, band economic development - committees, and workmen's compensation; natural resources, including fishing, gravel & sand, timber, traplines, and fur conservation; placement of labour, including consultation for employment opportunities, employment training aids, seasonal & causal employment, and winter works; office & other misc. expenses, including fuel & light - schools; Education, including non-indigenous pupils in indigenous schools, pupil guidance, native cultural education centre, education & cultural development projects, and band training; trust funds, including trust account statements; welfare, including aged allowances, miscellaneous assistance, disabled persons allowance, care of the handicapped, welfare & education to non-indigenous living on reserve, and work opportunity program; surveys & reserves; rights of way, including railroad, road, and telephone; leases; individual case files, including estates, guardianship, prospectors, and the mentally incompetent; veterans, including Veterans Land Act, disability pensions, and soldier settlers.
