The fonds consists of textual documents composed mainly of correspondence, memoranda, reports, papers and speeches of Mr. d'Aquino while he was CEO and President of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives (CCCE). His correspondents included prime ministers, cabinet ministers, senior public servants and business leaders. There are also numerous papers from members of the BCNI/CCCE in the fonds.
The subjects include: federal government fiscal policy, international trade (particularly Canada-United States and North America free trade agreements), business-government relations, social and tax policy, environmental policy and the Canadian Constitution.

D'Aquino, Thomas, 1941- : Thomas d'Aquino was Chief Executive and President of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives (CCCE), formerly the Business Council on National Issues (BCNI), from 1981 to 2009. He was born in Trail, British Columbia, in 1940 and was educated at the University of British Columbia, Queen's University, and the University of London. He is an entrepreneur, lawyer, corporate director, author and educator, and is a specialist in international trade. Trained as a lawyer, d'Aquino served as a special assistant to Pierre Trudeau, from 1969 to 1972. After working with management consulting firms in London and Paris he founded Intercounsel Limited, an international management consulting firm, in 1976. As head of the CCCE, whose membership consists of the chief executives of the 150 largest companies in Canada, d'Aquino was the voice of Canadian big business for almost 30 years and is considered the most significant business lobbyist in Canadian history. With d'Aquino as President and CEO the CCCE was influential in shaping the direction of government policies in the fiscal, taxation, trade, energy, environmental, and corporate sectors. The business community through the CCCE and d'Aquino accomplished many of its goals including North American free trade, the goods and services tax (GST) and balanced federal budgets. After retiring from the CCCE in 2009 d'Aquino has continued to be active as a management consultant and as an author, university professor, public speaker, and conference host in the fields of international law, international business, and public policy.
