The Business Council on National Issues (BCNI) announced the change of its name for the "Canadian Council of Chiefs Executives" (CCCE) on December 6th 2001. As Thomas d'Aquino explains it in an article published in Time Canada (December 17th 2001), after rethinking its own purpose and structure the Council arrived at the conclusion that it "needed a much more active presence and engagement beyond Canada's borders. The necessary shift in organizational structure also required a new name, The BCNI was a powerful brand within Canada, but it was confusing abroad, giving no clue as to its nationality or composition. The BCNI decided to keep its logo, half Canadian maple leaf, half stylized globe, but to change its name to the Canadian Council of Chief Executives."
