This fonds consists of files covering the application forms, procedures for evaluation and appeal of decisions governing eligibility to vote in the ratification process. There are copies of the Labrabor Inuit Land Claims Agreement, voters lists, ballot question, voting procedures, administrative information and all of the ballots cast. It also includes videocassette tapes of press releases and interviews with notable people during the vote. Electronic advertisement templates created for the Ratification Committee during the Labrador Inuit Land Claim is also included.

Labrador Inuit Claims Ratification Committee : The Labrador Inuit Land Claims Ratification Committee was created during the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement from 2003 to 2004. According to the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement, the Ratification Committee was established within twenty days from the initializing of the Agreement. It consisted of four individuals appointed by the Labrador Inuit Association, two individuals appointed by the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, two individuals appointed by the Minister of Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs and an independent chairperson appointed by consensus of the Labrador Inuit Association, the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and the Minister of Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs. The functions of the Ratification Committee included preparing and publishing the preliminary voters list and official voters list, establishing procedures and rules for the Inuit ratification vote, including rules governing the validity of ballots, the designation of voting centres, establishing the date of the Inuit ratification vote and of any advance polls, and any other necessary functions for the conduct of the vote, such as immediately communicating the results of the vote to all parties. Upon the completion of the ratification vote, the Ratification Committee was dissolved.

Historique de la conservation :

Fonds consists of records created as a result of the work of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Ratification Committee. There was a requirement for a formal vote to be held among eligible voters, the results of which determined if the agreement would be adopted. At the end of this process all ratification records were required to be transferred to Library and Archives Canada within 6 months as outlined in section 22.6.14(d). These records have been maintained by the Ratification Committee at Happy Valley - Goose Bay Labrador. The records have been transferred directly from the ratification committee to Library and Archives Canada according to section 22.6.14(d) of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement, signed by the Labrador Inuit Association, the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Government of Canada on August 29, 2003.
