While the AGM is the governing body of the CHA, the annual conference provides members an opportunity to showcase their research and discuss issues relating to the discipline. This annual three-day conference is held in conjunction with the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences (previously named the Learned Societies). Though the AGM and the conference are technically separate activities, they result from combined planning and organization by the CHA.
