The series consists of records created or accumulated by the Canadian Wheelmen's Association / Association Cycliste Canadienne (CWA) from its inception through to circa 1970, when the organization transitioned from a volunteer-driven organization to a professionally managed sports governing body known as the Canadian Cycling Association / Association Cycliste Canadienne. The earlier part of the series, on microfilm, consists of the first four volumes of the CWA's official journal -- The Canadian Wheelman (1883-1887). The remainder of the series includes Executive Council and Annual General Meeting minutes and supporting documentation (1921-1964, 1967); Dominion and Ontario Racing Board minutes, race results and membership lists (1936-1970); race books listing licenced riders and documenting race results (1938-1954); financial material documenting the CWA corporate structure and cash position over time (1952-1971); and correspondence and subject files documenting all aspects of CWA policy and administration in the post-World War 2 period (1953-1974).

In the original 1976 arrangement, portions of the records in this series comprised 6 series titled "financial material", "The Canadian Wheelmen", "Minute book" 1949-1953, "race books", "minute books" 1936-1960, and "minute books" 1921-1964. This arrangement has not been maintained.
