Sub-sub-series consists of returns for the 1926 Census of Prairie Provinces. This 1 June 1926 census covered the provinces of Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. Sub-sub-series is limited to the returns for the census of population.

The records are nominal (by name), listing each person individually, with details as to sex, marital status, age, country of place of birth, year of immigration, etc. The records are microfilmed copies of the paper originals that no longer exist.

Source of title:

Title is based on the contents of the sub-sub-series and the Dominion Bureau of Statistics publication titled "Census of Prairie Provinces, 1926 : population and agriculture, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta" (catalogue number 98-1926 F.)

Custodial history:

The original paper census returns were microfilmed in the 1950s by the Dominion Bureau of Statistics. The original paper returns were destroyed.

In 2005-2006, because of concerns regarding the deterioration of the 1950s-era acetate microfilms, Statistics Canada copied the microfilms, creating a new master on a more stable support (polyester).

The master microfilms were transferred to the custody and control of the Library and Archives Canada 7 February 2018.

Copy/version note:

The digitized images were prepared from the microfilmed census returns.

Restrictions on access note:

The digitized copies of these records must be consulted rather than the microfilm originally received by Library and Archives Canada.

No further accruals are expected.
